“Hello, this is Bestseller Books Today and I’m your host, Kasey Wees. Today we will be discussing a new book by David Grann called KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON: THE OSAGE
______
AND THE BIRTH OF THE FBI.
Here today to tell us about the book is a
______
youtuber and book reviewer for the Greensburg Gazette, Cole Bailey.
-I’m glad to be here Kasey.
-So, let’s dive right into it.
-Gladly. KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON follows the true story of the Osage Indians in the 1920s as they are murdered for their
______
, and how the Bureau of Investigation works to solve this case. The problem started for the Osage when they were forced off their land in
______
in 1870 and left to find a new land. They found a better land, considered uninhabitable in
______
and settled there. The Osage were struggling to survive and their numbers were dwindling. During this time, the Whites were also trying to force Westernization onto the
______
Americans. The conditions changed drastically in 1917 when
______
was found in Osage county. Because the Osage Indians shared any wealth that comes into the tribe through a process of headrights for official tribe members, the Osage Indians soon became the richest people per capita in the world. Many of the Indians began to live an
______
lifestyle and at last they were making enough money to live.
-Unfortunately, this was not a happy ending. In the 1920s, the Osage began to notice
______
deaths that weren’t able to be solved. Many
______
looked for fame and rushed into the Osage county to investigate the murders. Unfortunately, the vast majority were unsuccessful, resulting in the
______
of the FBI.
-The FBI are credited to this day for the
______
of the Osage murderer. However, questions still remain as to who committed the Osage murders.
-So, what did you enjoy most about the book?
-I really enjoyed the last section of the book, the reporter. I feel that the connection made between the 20th and 21st centuries show progression within the
______
science field.
-That’s very true. I actually really enjoyed the second part, the
______
man. It is the longest section so it was intimidating going in, but definitely worth the read. I think it accurately represents the true fear of the Osage and the struggles faced by investigators due to the lack of modern technology.
-In the evidence man, I especially liked the
______
. It is an unveiling of who the people behind the murders are, and how far they are willing to go to fulfil their needs.
-Also, the trial truly shows the effects the murders have on fellow Osage and their families.
-I agree. I found the beginning of the book helpful because it describes the characters’ lives before and at the start of the murders. The insight on how life from today differs from life then was
______
.
-One very important thing we did not mention was the cars. The cars in this book symbolize wealth and were not nearly as common as they are now.
-Ha yes. The famous Ford Model T.
______
has really come a long way, huh?
-Yes, it has. Well, that’s all we have time for today. I would like to give a special thanks to Cole for joining me today, and make sure to check him out on Youtube and at the Greensburg Gazette. This is Kasey Wees with Bestseller Books Today signing off.”
